TRANSPORTATION

Highway 145 Construction – This project will build a new climbing lane on Keystone Hill between mile markers 72 and 73. Construction will continue through Nov. 2006, with crews taking a winter break prior to completing the project by the summer of 2007. Mountain Village Parking Fees in the South Village Center (Blue Mesa), North Village Center lot (Westermere), Village Pond, and Upper Mountain Village Blvd.: Free up to 30 min. and $2 per hour after that. The parking structure, with over 400 parking spaces, is open and free to the public. Locals and visitors encouraged to park in the free lot and take the gondola to the Village Center.

The Galloping Goose runs between Telluride and Mountain Village, with Lawson Hill Service. The normal Telluride in-town schedule is: 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Friday every 20 min. unless it's 7-9 a.m. and it will run every 10 min., Weekend hours are Saturday and Sunday every 20 min. from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Festival hours may be different. Walking Words – Hungry? Walking Words feeds both your tummy and your creative spirit. The annual event begins with a progressive literary dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, featuring appetizers at Tellurice with a reading by Naropa poet Maureen Owen, entrée at 221 with a reading by nature writer Susan Tweit, and dessert at the San Sophia with thriller writer Francine Mathews. A cash bar is available at all three locations. Cost for the evening, including tax and tip, is $50. Only 35 seats are available, and the event sells out every year. Saturday is devoted to consecutive 2.5 hour workshops in fiction, poetry and nonfiction, held at the Ah Haa School. Essay writing from 9 to 11:30 a.m., Poetry from 12:30 to 3 p.m., and Fiction from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Each workshop costs $20 and is limited to 12 people. No materials (except pen and paper) or previous writing experience are necessary. To register for this weekend's events, call the Ah Haa School at 728-3886.
