TCAH Small Grants The Telluride Council for the Arts and Humanities announces its final Small Grant and Artist Fellowship Grant round for 2006. The Small Grants program funds artists and nonprofit arts and humanities organizations up to $1,000 in Small Grant awards (to aid in project funding), $500 in Artist Fellowships awards (to further arts education), and now a Stronghouse Studios scholarship (for an individual space for up to six months). The Stronghouse Studios presents a group art exhibit of Stronghouse artists, which will run through Nov. 30. Studio spaces are available to rent for local visual artists. Call for Entries The Ah Haa School is calling all young local and regional artists between 6 and 12 grades to submit art entries for their upcoming 5th annual Youth Art Awards, which honors students for their creativity and interest in art. Three first place prizes will be awarded in the follow grade groups: 6-7 grades, 8-10 grades and 11-12 grades. First place winners will receive a gift certificate toward one Ah Haa class of their choice, professional framing for one piece of artwork donated by Gallerie Framing and will be featured in local newspapers and Ah Haa's winter schedule. One overall grand-prize winner will receive the opportunity to have their very own exhibition at Gallerie Framing. Auditions for Beauty Lou and the Country Beast A production by the Missoula Children's Theatre. Those auditioning should arrive at the Palm Theatre at 3:20 p.m. and plan to stay for two full hours. Most of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition. Among the roles to be cast are Beauty Lou, Imaginary Friend, Beast, Dusty, Slim, and more. Highway 145 Construction This project will build a new climbing lane on Keystone Hill between mile markers 72 and 73. Construction will continue through Nov. 2006, with crews taking a winter break prior to completing the project by the summer of 2007. During construction hours, the speed limit will be reduced to 30 mph through the one-mile, one lane work zone. Walking Words Hungry? Walking Words feeds both your tummy and your creative spirit. The annual event begins with a progressive literary dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, featuring appetizers at Tellurice with a reading by Naropa poet Maureen Owen, entrée at 221 with a reading by nature writer Susan Tweit, and dessert at the San Sophia with thriller writer Francine Mathews. A cash bar is available at all three locations. Cost for the evening, including tax and tip, is $50. Only 35 seats are available, and the event sells out every year. Saturday is devoted to consecutive 2.5-hour workshops in fiction, poetry and nonfiction, held at the Ah Haa School. Essay writing from 9 to 11:30 a.m., Poetry from 12:30 to 3 p.m., and Fiction from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Each workshop costs $20 and is limited to 12 people.
